The straits both separate and unite. Borders but also passages that entice curiosity about the other shore. The Strait of Gibraltar is a double mirror where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, and Andalusia and the Maghreb look at each other. There two great musical traditions flourished: flamenco to the north and a so-called "Arab-Andalusian" music to the south. The differences between these traditions endure, but their kinship is striking. This concert is a sequence of melodic tableaux, performed, sung and danced according to traditional rules.
