September 1939, France enters the war against the Third Reich. Backed by its British ally, its strategy is clear: economically strangle Germany. In this context, the French Navy will play a key role by organizing the blockade and control of commercial sea routes… This exhibition offers a look at the production of the Naval Cinematography Service through a photographic journey that reveals the merchant marine’s role in the stakes of the Phoney War.
