The exhibition features more than 500 photographs dating from 1850 to the present. All photographic techniques are represented. Numerous loans supplement the holdings of the two museums of Saint-Étienne, notably those from the Heritage and Photography Media Library, the Forney Library, and galleries for contemporary artists. How do photographers observe a city that works? What do they show? The question is complex, and the exhibition aims to recount this complexity by not limiting the city that works to industrial photography, to the worker in front of his machine…
