Jazz Off' | Dal Sasso Big Band - Africa / Brass Revisited

27 Avenue de la Bastide, L'Eden

In 1961, John Coltrane recorded for Impulse! Africa/Brass, a unique album in his discography, since it is the only one he made with a big band. Surrounded by an orchestra dominated by brass, Coltrane explores a repertoire inspired by blues, spirituals, folklore and songs tied to slavery. Arranged notably by Eric Dolphy, these compositions evoke Africa, the continent of origins, while echoing Afro-American history and experience. Almost fifty years later, the arranger Christophe Dal Sasso revisits this emblematic repertoire with his big band.
