Gau Beltza, meaning 'Dark Night' in Basque, is an ancient celebration of the Basque Country held every year on October 31 in Hendaye. This tradition marked the transition from autumn to winter. Today, the City of Hendaye revives this tradition through a large popular festival that blends Basque mythology, a witches' ball, performances, music, dancing, parades and symbolic rituals.
