Gau Beltza, meaning “Black Night” in Basque, is an ancestral celebration of the Basque Country that takes place every year on October 31 in Hendaye. This tradition marked the transition from autumn to winter. Today, the City of Hendaye brings this tradition back to life through a large festive event blending Basque mythology, witches’ ball, performances, music, dances, parades and symbolic rituals.
