From her family history, Caroline Lam composes a choreographic traversal between Rome, Vietnam and France. Burning Threads brings into dialogue memories of exile, the heritage of Catholic colonialism with the figures of Saints – Agnes of Rome and Agnes of Vietnam – and Vietnamese spiritualities with the goddess Mẹ Mẫu. The piece questions what is transmitted from one generation to the next and the tensions that accompany any migratory story: preserving one's heritage while seeking to integrate.
