THÉÂTRE DE LA CITÉ, 1 Rue Pierre Baudis
Oedipus, king of Thebes, discovers that he is the author of the worst crimes and the cause of his people's woes. The tragedy speaks to the curse of his lineage, the one that drives fathers to kill their children, but also to the failure of a hero who believed he could settle everything with his intelligence. His daughter Antigone, who defends the 'unwritten laws' against the political order, will be the final victim of this cycle of violence. By linking these three plays, Stéphane Braunschweig makes Sophocles's questions resonate with our time.
