Franz von Suppé (1819 - 1895) is one of the pioneers of Viennese operetta and the author of vibrant overtures such as Light Cavalry and Poet and Peasant. Behind his popular and festive successes, Franz von Suppé composed several sacred, deep and spiritual works. Composed in 1855, this Requiem in D minor gives it a dark character. Its 13 movements swing between episodes of great dramatic intensity and moments of contemplation with great melodic finesse. It is a deeply grandiose, rare and moving piece to discover.
