The Mekong flows along 4350 km and passes through six countries. The film traces twenty years of evolution of the cities and peoples living on its banks: Tibetan salt monasteries, Angkor, Phnom Penh, dragon boat racing, the house of Marguerite Duras' lover, Ho Chi Minh City at Christmas… Between immutable traditions, modernization and the memory of explorers, a journey along a mythic river, witness to the upheavals of a world in full change.
