Art History Conference: The Human Figure Questioned in Contemporary Art
Culture · Wednesday, November 4 · 18:45 · Talence
Place Alcala de Hénares 33400 Talence
From the emergence of Cubism (1907) and Futurism (1909), the representation of the human figure seems to fragment endlessly in contemporary art, sometimes even disappearing entirely in favor of various abstract currents. Yet the 20th century also saw the birth of movements seeking to return to figuration, especially after the Great War, when Roger Bissière (1886-1964) launched his "call to order", embodied by André Derain (1880-1954) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973).
