Gau Beltza - A parade through the streets of downtown

Show · Saturday, October 31 · 19:00 · Hendaye

En centre-ville

Gau Beltza, meaning 'Black Night' in Basque, is an ancient Basque celebration held every October 31 in Hendaye. This tradition once marked the transition from autumn to winter. Today, the city of Hendaye revives this festivity as a large popular celebration blending Basque mythology, a witches’ ball, performances, music, dances, parades and symbolic rituals. Participants are invited to share their fears, entrust them to the legendary figures of the night, and watch them disappear in a purifying fire, a symbol of renewal.
