Three characters find themselves dead in the same room. They are Garcin, a journalist; Inès, a Post Office employee; and Estelle, a wealthy socialite. They do not know each other, come from very different backgrounds, and do not share the same beliefs or tastes. In this play, a trial in private begins, where each of the three characters judges and is judged by the acts that make up their existence.
