In Paris, the Vatelins lead a peaceful life until M. Pontagnac, a friend of M. Vatelin, follows Lucienne, his wife, to their home with the intention of courting her. Discovering that she is a friend’s wife, Pontagnac is embarrassed, and since M. Vatelin is not rancorous, he proposes inviting his own wife to come see the couple. Just as the invitation is declined, Pontagnac’s wife arrives and begins to doubt her husband’s fidelity. While Lucienne Vatelin is courted by Pontagnac and M. Rédillon, another friend of M.
