It is through Hippolyte Bayard, born in 1801 in Breteuil-sur-Noye, that the Oise department made its main contribution to the history of photography. From 1839, following the discoveries of Nicéphore Niépce and Louis Daguerre, he is at the origin of the negative/positive process and the first paper proofs. He is among the most famous of the French 'primitive' image makers. Combining his numerous experiments with a real artistic concern in the creation of his photographs, Hippolyte Bayard left his original mark on the beginnings of photography…
