Betrayed by the queen of Spain, Don Salluste seeks revenge. He forces his valet Ruy Blas to pose as a noble to approach the young queen. Secretly in love with her, Ruy Blas accepts. Having become a man of power, he uses his intelligence for the state and aims to end corruption. But Salluste’s Machiavellian plan tightens… This central work of the repertoire, performed at the Comédie-Française since 1879, has not been staged there for twenty-five years. It is a cornerstone of the company’s repertoire, and its world of intrigue still resonates today.
